Empowering Warriors: Transforming Through Adventure

Our Vetting Committee consists of wounded warriors who evaluate and assess the eligibility of veterans for Wounded Warriors Outdoors programs and services. Our committee tailors each Adventure to the needs of the applicants and offers a holistic approach that addresses physical, mental, and social well-being.

Vetting Committee

We understand the battle within—from experience.

Our Vetting Committee features veterans who offer firsthand invaluable insights into the challenges our wounded warriors face, from psychological wounds, to amputated limbs, and more. The Committee advocates for their peers and participates wholeheartedly in the vetting process for Wounded Warrior Outdoors, ensuring that the needs and concerns of their fellow wounded warriors are understood and addressed. The committee proudly supports our community, forming a sense of solidarity and creating support systems and policies to positively impact the lives of all wounded veterans.

  • WWO means everything to me, and you could even say I found my new purpose in life. Selfless service and helping give back to an organization that has done so much for me and other warriors countless times. Being a warrior, I was able to meet other like-minded warriors who may have been ahead longer in the healing process than I was; I saw what the outcome could be if you put in the work.

Joshua Sust, Corporal, U.S. Marine Corps, Retired

  • As a leader, you are to provide Purpose, Motivation, and Direction. When I left the military, I lost these. WWO is my Purpose, Motivation, and Direction, and I hope to continue to provide the same to our Wounded Service Men and Women through this amazing organization.

Yancy R. Baer, Major, U.S. Army, Retired

  • WWO impacted my overall well-being...it played a key role in my physical, mental, and emotional recovery, and my family and I will forever be grateful.

Gabriel Monreal, Sergeant, First Class, U.S. Army, Retired

  • WWO has given me purpose and lifelong friendships. It grounds me in nature and allows me to reset and become a better version of myself. Seeing new warriors experience a WWO trip for the first time and watching their progression as they develop friendships and work on themselves and their relationships is fulfilling. Giving back to others after I’ve received so much from this organization is always my goal.

Marcus D. Wilson, First Sergeant, U.S. Marine Corps, Retired
